Changes in serum inflammatory cytokines, erythropoietin, vascular endothelial growth factor and orexins predict early depression after ischemic stroke

چکیده
This study aimed to investigate the serum level of monoamine neurotransmitters, inflammatory cytokines, leptin, EPO, VEGF, NGF and orexins in ischemic stroke patients with (n=38) and without (n=52) depression and explore the correlation between these parameters and post-stroke depression (PSD). When compared with non-PSD group, the VEGF, EPO, NE, 5-HT, DA and NGF reduced significantly (P < 0.05) and IL-6, TNFα, orexin-a and orexin-b increased significantly (P < 0.05) in PSD group. The leptin and IL-10 were comparable between two groups. The VEGF, EPO, NE, DA, NGF, IL-6, TNF-α, orexin-a, orexin-b, gender, MMSE score and HAMA score were risk factors of PSD in ischemic stroke patients. Logistic regression analysis showed PSD was independently related to HAMA score and orexin-b. These results indicate that in early PSD after initial ischemic stroke, inflammation is involved in the pathogenesis of PSD, and EPO, VEGF and factors able to promote neuroplasticity are protective on PSD. Orexin-b increase is closely related to PSD. The alteration in these parameters predicts the occurrence of PSD.

O10: Thrombo-Inflammation in Acute Ischemic Stroke
Ischemic stroke has been classified as a merely thrombotic disease, so the main goal of its treatment is the recanalization of the occluded vasculature. However, despite fast restoration of blood circulation, progressive stroke still develops in many patients, which has led to the concept of reperfusion injury. The underlying mechanism is only partly known. Though, it is accepted now, tha...
متن کاملMiR-103 regulates the angiogenesis of ischemic stroke rats by targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF)
Objective(s): To investigate the effect of miR-103 on the angiogenesis of ischemic stroke rats via targeting vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) at the molecular level. Materials and Methods: Rat models had received the middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) or sham operation before grouping, and cell models of oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD) were performed. FITC-dextran, matrigel, and ...
متن کاملSerial measurement of vascular endothelial growth factor and transforming growth factor-beta1 in serum of patients with acute ischemic stroke.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Both vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and transforming growth factor-beta1 (TGF-beta1) are expressed in higher than normal concentrations in the penumbra of patients after ischemic stroke. Because both cytokines are central to the processes of angiogenesis, tissue inflammation, and fibrosis, we performed serial measurements of these cytokines in patients with cer...
متن کاملMolecular Study of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor Gene in Iranian Patients after Myocardial Infarction
Background: Stimulation of collateral artery growth (arteriogenesis) and/or capillary network growth (angiogenesis) would be beneficial to the patients with myocardial infarction. To understand the central role of vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in biological angiogenesis, we performed molecular analysis of the VEGF gene in patients afflicted with acute myocardial infarction (AMI). Me...
